The Adventures of Tin Tin sound/mix

I just saw The Adventures of Tin Tin the other night; wow, what a fun little project!

Going to say that I figure it'll probably get nominated for sound at the Academy Awards. (shrug) but what do I know...

Really 'different' kind of score for John Williams, though.

But lots of really great detail in things like sword fights ( a great 'gunpowder trail' moment---not really a spoiler so I don't feel too bad about that haha ) and chase scenes, not to mention the excellent attention to (realistic) detail that animation demands. And a great mix from Christopher Boyes and Andy Nelson. Some great panning including some creative dialogue panning.

My one beef is probably that I personally don't 'go in for' the 'glimmery metal shimmer' with handling/slight movements of metal objects ie: knives and stuff like that. Have had to do it before, of course, but doesn't mean I care for it.

Technical film-making-wise, I think I've seen Spielberg's most ambitious/adventuresome film! Some moments where I just laughed during and at the end going "well THAT was a hell of a lot of fun/lot of work to put that together!". Virtual cameras...nothing that can't be done now...

...and the sound crew just has to make it believable.

And they did.

It has been nominated in several categories, including sound editing for BAFTA and AMPAS. Agree, the sound on it is great!

It is an outstanding mix. Great clarity and great balance. Hat's off to Gary and the crew!

Yes... I agree. There are very few blockbuster adventure/ action movie soundtracks that I enjoy. I really loved the sound design, mix and score of Tintin.

How did you like the pitching of prima donna Castafiore, then? I laughed out very loudly an felt very embarrassed moments after since everyone looked at me like I was very, very weird...

+1, I was completely in love with the film's mix and design. The realism that it brought was just outstanding, and they dig a great job at bringing out the clarity of moments. One example which comes to mind (which ironically is not a huge action sequence) is when Tin Tin runs into the street and all the cars are driving past him. The combination of the camera pans and the music/design/mix was outstanding for such a great start to a scene.

Kudos.
