Cooking sfx library

I am mixing a new cooking show and the sfx I have aren't quite cutting it. Anybody know of any good cooking/kitchen sfx libraries? I've downloaded a few individual sfx off of soundsnap, but am looking for a more complete collection.

sizzles/chopping/boiling/pots and pans/knife sounds/ etc

Also, maybe it might be wise to have a sub-forum dedicated to just sfx issues, seems like there could be some interest in this.

Thanks!!

There is plenty of that sort of stuff on many different libraries....but just get a mic and spend an hour or two in the kitchen!

Yeah this kind of stuff is pretty easy to grab in a couple hours. If you are doing 13 eps or something it would probably save time.

Foley artist.

Or are you going to drag every single carrot chop, every pan clank, every apron movement, every pour of liquid from a library to your timeline?
Will take for ever. A foley artist will do it MUCH more effectively.
I´d only pull the machines (mixers etc.), boiling, frying from a library. Stuff that´s more difficult to do on a foley stage.
I´d foley all the handlig. Much faster, better and cheaper than cutting that from libraries, IMO. Imagine the amount of sounds you need to cut a simple thing as taking a pot out of a drawer taking off the lid, setting the pot on the stove, turn on stove. You could spend an hour to find those things in a library and cut them and it still might not fit the picture right. A foley-artist will do that live in real time.

Might be worth chatting to the sound recordist!

We've done quite a few cooking shows over the last couple of years and a lot of them seem to do a 2 pass, once with the chef talking, and one just for hands and sound. It means you end up getting the perfect sound-set for that kitchen.

Hi Jeff,

I have a lot of kitchen sound effects for instant download on my website at airbornesound.com. Most recorded with the Neumann 191 microphone for crisp and full recordings.

Kitchen Activity - various combo tracks:
Search results for: 'kitchen activity'

Chopping different veggies and fruits:

Boiling water, various versions:
Search results for: 'boiling'

Sizzling butter and oil sizzling:
Search results for: 'sizzle'

I also have a couple of download packs. They're collections of 50 sounds for a discounted bulk price ($19.95):
Search results for: 'kitchen'

I have lots of kitchen sound clips in the 'kitchen category' - rice cookers, stir fry cooking, foley, etc. You can browse here:

I'd also be happy to set up a custom package for you, or record custom effects at no extra charge, just let me know.

You're also welcome to use this promo code at checkout for 25% off your order: GEARSLUTZ25

(Any other gearslutz members can use this as well!)

Sincerely,
Paul Virostek

I've posted close to a couple hundred cooking shows. You will only find a few basics in Sound-Ideas and Hollywood Edge and the other major libraries. After that, there should be a few usuable PFX. Yet we relied heavily on our own custom Effects. We rarely did it to picture, but occasionally we did, so I don't call it "foley". So, gather up what you need and record it yourself.

Thanks everyone for the tips!

Unfortunately, hiring a foley artist isn't an option, but great idea to fire up the 'ole recorder every time I start cooking dinner. Just getting a basic collection of sounds should be a good start. I haven't been given much to work with, but that may be because these are mostly working kitchens with LOTS of loud extraneous sounds... not ideal to capture pristine production audio.

And Paul, I'll take a look and see what you've got. Thanks!
