Pro Tools and EMPTY TRACKS / REGION BIN!

Got this one again yesterday, 48 hrs before a final.

Gee. Notice anything...MISSING?
All I did was quit Pro Tools, go to another drive to check something, and come back. Love this bug. LOVE IT!

i had one of these (on7.4) recently where, when I opened up my session (everything had been fine the day before) it opened up with literally ALL the audio tracks missing and only the stems remaining. Thank GOD (or Digi/Avid) for auto backup!!!

Feel for you man!

Well, at least your markers were still there, so you could identify the locations of all your missing clips.

A previous session file backup (thankfully, it was ON...would still love to find out what sometimes triggers it to go OFF) and things are back.

Lost a half hour. Nothing major as it is in tweak phase now.

(cue Matrix Bullet-Time sfx and visuals of me dodging another bullet...)

hmm. so much for embedding video.

Anyone know proper procedure for embedding video here?

This happened to me last week. The day I was supposed to deliver the multitrack session to the mixing engineer!

In my case, during that 24 hour period, I had NOT moved any files from any hard drives so it wasn't that problem but 1/2 of the tracks were missing.

I went to the backups but they too were missing.

So I had to call the engineer to give me an extra 5 hours and re-did it.......... Never figured out what that problem was though....

Watch out that the John Cage trust doesn't sue you!

On a more serious note, I've never seen this happen. Is this a new bug? Which version are you using?

7.2; MAC OS 10.4.11. We're on that version for awhile yet. I know, I know...

It's only happened to me twice before, every almost-couple years.

Other routine "unexpected" (mmph....) crashes, yeah, familiar with

Pro Tools Has Unexpectedly Quit.

Thanks.
Next time I'll EXPECT it.

Sure thing, Jeff.

I always sit there calmly going "Ah yeah, it was gonna do that at least twice today. Good thing I was expecting that to happen in front of a client." (slurps coffee)

I usually imagine the cost of the gear at that moment. It helps.

I really should be thankful for the stretch breaks...
Rather than let it frustrate me.

See... it's not a bug, it's a feature! AVID has designed it to crash JUST so we poor audio folks get a break!

All these years... I should be thanking them!
I just spent a good chunk of the weekend in the hospital with kidney infection... Damn that sedentary lifestyle! See? THANK YOU for crashing and glitching, it gets me out of my chair to walk around!!!,

(and get a glass of cranberry juice)

I have had that happen a couple of times in the 7.x versions (thankfully I'm on 9 now) it seems to have to do with the mysterious way that 7.x quits/saves. You may have noticed that on some sessions when you quit out it doesn't actually quit right away? You wait for a moment then you get the quiting or closing or whatever it said dialog box.. if you move anything from the folder, rename (or perhaps open another session) before making sure the session is ACTUALLY closed, all of your files disappear like that. I got in to the habit of either waiting or, in extreme cases, just quitting before opening a new session. I think it had to do with the disk catalog thing that was done away with in Version 8
