Izotope Rx 2

Hi All,

I am just trialing the Izotope 2 Advanced and am wondering if the maximum amount of audio has been limited to 10 seconds on the spectral analyser and when you purchase the full version you can do more?

Should I only be using this section to be taking out very minor sounds rather than longer background problems?

Do you mean Spectral repair, or spectrum analyzer?

No, it isn't limited to 10 seconds either way

It's only limited to 10 in spectral repair when using as a plug, in another host. When I use it in Pro Tools I can "capture" up to 10 seconds and then make my repairs in the plugin window and process as an audiosuite plugin.

Progress Bar

Also is there any way of having a progress line that goes through the wave for as you are looking at the edit? I find it really difficult when you are looking for small sounds to locate without knowing the playback location. At the moment I am having to cross reference between the edit window on PT and the Spectral analyser window which is not quick.

Any hints and tips on using this plugin to its full potential would be great!

Thanks

From the help section...

Quote:
Processing Limitations
Depending on the mode and settings, Spectral Repair will have varying limits to the amount of audio that can be processed in your selection.
  • Unlimited - Attenuate when in Vertical mode only.
  • 10 seconds - Attenuate Horizontal or 2D, Replace modes.
  • 4 seconds - Pattern, Partials+Noise modes.

Oh, I never use it with a host, I only ever use it as a standalone. Cheers for the heads up.

No, at least not in PT audiosuite. Your going to have to learn what to look for in that spectral window.

I suggest use it in standalone mode when spectral repairing. It's a few more steps exporting the clip you want to clean up, but it's well worth it as it isn't hobbled like it is as an Audiosuite plug-in. All other RX2 tools work fine as Audiosuites in my experience.

Are you setting the view to midway between the waveform and spectral display? That gives you the waveform over (and blocking to some extent) the spectral display. I've also found that the spectral display redraws in a slightly different place when you move back to spectral only.

I think I understand what you want, though...a playback button for the spectral window with a cursor that you can stop over the sound in question. That would be cool.

The advanced version of RX2 has 'Multi-resolution spectral repair'. Does this add functionality to the visual repair or are they the same for stand and advanced versions?

It uses different numbers of bands for low, mid, and high frequencies. If you don't frequently adjust "Num. bands", you probably don't care.
