Re-striping is just "layback" as mentioned. We 'stripe' tapes with TC and black, a bunch of guys here say 're-stripe' if they're replacing a part of that, usually referring to insert editing finished audio mixes onto the master tape.

My point re: the D5 machine is simple, it does it all in-box, without stressing the operator over the math. Select start format, select target format... press play, done.

It was just an alternative as opinions were being sought. It's how I do it and it works very well for me. Especially as I can do it all in the tape room without tying up a suite.

There is no best algo for everything. I've never tried Solo Musical on complex material.

To get the duration of 96% of the original, the speed is 104.1666% of the original. But that doesn't matter, all you need to enter is duration %.

I can understand that, I always have to do the math, and double check, triple check.... In PT import options there are SRC presets for these conversions. I'll do a feature request to Steinberg to include all possible presets in the 'Resample' function, so that I don't have to do the math everytime!

Hello,

I think I have the same problem and I tryed it and I thought it worked, but now I've discovered that, it wnet out of sync again.
...My problem is:
I've recieved materials (Video PAL, ENG 48khz 24bit wav and MNE 48khz 24bit wav)
I've also recieved two wav's(L and R), also 48khz 24bit, with laughs only in it.
But when I import them with the rest of the files they are longer and out of sync.
Production company told me that this "laughs" file/channel was ripped from a NTSC video so you have to adjust it.
Any ideas how? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much.
Oh..I'm working inside Nuendo 4.

In some strange situations i've done this:
in pro tools, sync the beginning of both tracks. Switch your main counter to samples and measure the length of both tracks (in samples, very large numbers) and divide them. This will give you a ratio. (e.g. 0,9123)
Multiply this ratio by 48000 and this will give you the "source sample rate", which you can enter manually in the import audio SRC options.
But even this is not exact always. Sometimes it's simply a fact of different edits and you must sync manually at several points.
Cheers
PS: Oh, Nuendo... I guess it can do that too somehow...
