PT LE 8 video won't play

Hey folks:
PT LE on mbox2 micro, mbook pro 256 VRAM, 6GB RAM (!), Intel Duo 2.4 OS 10.6.3. Just trying to play on-screen video on laptop screen.

Neither formatted-video will play at ALL:

DVCPRO-NTSC
MJPG-A
h264 (tried it for fun, but of course no)

Any tips?
Sorry--maybe I'm missing something. Tried all the tricks I know.
(yes, video is online)
Jeff

i guess you've also tried the other basics? like it plays in QT or vlc or whatever?

i've never transcoded to DVCpro. have you tried regular DV? i've never had problems with that... yet.

Yes the QTs play perfectly fine on their own and actually, a friend's PT 'free' on an older mac PLAYS THE STINKING VIDEO.....

This one, truly, sucks.

Possible that the engine has a flawed file. I know PT subs out video to quicktime on the system, but if nothing else works, try an install over the current one, maybe that would overwrite any questionable files.

The only issue like this I've had is a missing codec and video is black, but at least it plays.

What version of PT are you using? I recall hearing somewhere that this is a confirmed Pro Tools bug (I had a similar problem with certain files), it might be gone if you update. But as always, keep an disk image with previous install at hand.

PT 8 LE

Yes I've heard maybe there is a miscommunication with QT and PT

I'm on QT 10 which was probably the default with Snow Leopard.
Should have stuck with ol' 7.6 QT.

I love troubleshooting.

Hmm...

apparently others weren't notified, either. Big round of fixes and probably should be running 8.0.3cs

Jifrah,

Just in case, there wasn't a choice for upfront use of Quicktime 10 in SL, however, QT 7 lurks in the Utilities folder waiting to be brought back to the dock. Thank god too... i use it for transcodes all the time.

Just FYI in case you didn't know.

You should really look into getting PT9 if you're already on SL.

Success. Kind of.

I've upgraded to 8.0cs4 LE and now...bing! QuickTime video plays fine.

I just...you know... lose the 'quirky little feature' that allowed things to actually be in frame grids when saved on a 'real' PT system and opened on LE.

Now it is most definitely min/sec.

hey at least I have video.

p.s. I would go to 9, and probably will, because now I'm 'losing' TimeCode (can't lose it if you don't really have it, right?), but will see. Have to edit ADR recordings to sync so really 'waveforms are waveforms' and I'll have the recorded sessions passed on to me.

Are you using DV Toolkit or CPTK with your LE system? You should have TC as an available timebase on your LE system (with frame grid) using either of those. Unless I'm not correctly understanding what your difficulty is.

Naw, I don't use my home system/laptop enough to have purchased toolkit.
But an interesting 'flaw in the system' was that when you open HD sessions (for instance) in L.E. before this update, you'd actually have grid which was in frames, and could move stuff around by the frame. Without production / dv toolkit. Wasn't 'real timecode' but still...
