"Can I use it to fix up mic placement wander on film and video post production?
Yes. The dialogue enhance settings illustrate this kind of use. The procedure is similar to vocal processing, but using faster timing settings. You can capture when the dialogue at it's clearest and let the DSM raise the whole dialogue track to this level, with this overall response. Not only will the DSM correct for level, it will also correct for frequency response changes when the the subject wanders from the microphone. "

I use it all the time. It's amazing. Makes a killer de-esser too.

Hi guys,
Just dropped Paul an email, but maybe someone in here can shed light?
I bought DSM v2 yesterday and looking forwards to putting it through its paces.
Only problem is I'm trying to use the audiosuite version to capture from a region on track 1 and print to a region on track 2, if you follow.
First limitation is I cant see how to capture using the audiosuite version, the capture button wont stay lit, I have to hold it making pressing the render button impossible.
Secondly, if I capture using a realtime insert and save the spectrum map, I cant seem to load it into the audiosuite version to render. I go through the motions to save and load but nothing populates the frequency plot in the AS instance.
Is anyone using DSM in this fashion or only using it as a realtime plug and automating it? My issue is session interop, not may folks over here use DSM and want my dx prep sessions to be portable between rooms.

Could be it isn't updated. Otherwise set up a rerecord track and just print it.

I can only say what an amazing plugin. This plugin supports your creativity.
We recently had a problem with de-essing the room mics of a drumkit,
because we ran it through a shure level loc (pretty aggressively,
because that was exactly the sound we were looking for, the only other dynamics tool that smashed the drums almost that hard was a dynamite).
We tried every de-esser we had and every de-essing method with more or less satisfying results. Then we tried the DSM. Ha ha! The idea was to capture the spectrum of the room mics without the hihat. Here we go. So we recorded the drums again (without the hihat), used the room mics to capture the spectrum and then, processed the original room mic track with the captured response. Absolutely great results.
A little custom threshold at 7200 hz for de-essing, a little 2200 hz for getting rid of some level loc distortion. Worked just great.
This plugin is truly inspiring.
Another imaginable use for this plugin which came to my mind is the enhancement of my aphex extra low end (check out using an SPL vitalizer via AUX for that extra low end, works just great, too.)

I'm currently demoing the DSM plug in and it may sound like pure heresy but I have two problems with it. 1) for my ears there is strong coloration introduced which doesn't sound nice most of the times, 2) I get always a loss of highs, some would call it loss of "air". I really tried hard and I had a positive prejudice as I like the Sonnox plug ins and think Mr. Frindle is very competent and a gentleman par excellance. To say it simple ... the results always sound a bit strange to me. I used AU and VST in different hosts with a lot of settings and captures on different material, including voice. There is a big discrepancy about the constant raving about DSM and my own listening experience.

Anyone know if there's any difference between V1 and V2 besides the AAX part?

I've definitely noticed when I've pushed the DSM too far. It can make some dialog tracks super harsh if you're not careful on how hard you put signal into it.
