Post-production for smartphone frequency response

I've been composing a lot of music designed for smartphone games recently (Blackberry, iPhone, Android etc).

I was wondering if anyone had any specific post-production tips in this regard. I've got to find a way of making a piece of music that sounds good when listened to through a pair of earphones, but also "pleasing" to the ear when coming outloud from the phone's internal speaker.

I heard the theme tunes from both Angry Birds, and also Plants Vs Zombies - both seem to sound great but also relatively minimalistic.

I suppose not having things cluttered up in a single freq band would be a good tip - but has anyone else any advice?

Mix on the intended device.

Short of that, you can try putting an instance of Speakerphone on your master output and choosing a similar device.
