Akai Gx-270-d

Has anyone on here ever used an Akai Gx-270-d to record anything? Is it possible to use this for tape saturation on a real project? Or will it degrade the quality of the signal? I was thinking of using it to capture some tape character on the drum tracks. Is this the cart before the horse, or not even worth attempting?
