Thread Starter | "nose whistling like broken nose"
Ok here's one. I need to create the sound of someone's nose whistling like it has been broken a few times. I have a few ideas but wondering what the other folks throw out there. The gag is a person is talking behind someone else and the person knows who it is because of the nose-whistling as they talk. It'll have to be laid in overtop the dialogue and I'm thinking probably just having a ref whistle or something and finding 'the sweet spot' to just blow across gently and try to layer it under. I may have the actor ADR the line while doing the same whistle-thing. Anyone else? Jeff

Aha! I'm able to produce a nice little whistle by exhaling in a certain way through my teeth/open mouth. I'll "ADR" my sound over the line I think.

nice... I do my own ADR all the time. If it's not in the library... make it yourself.

Me, Myself and Irene has a great example of this.

That's probably where they got the idea from... but I don't recall that spot in the show. OTHERs like "Freeing Willy" and the chocolate self-serve, THOSE I remember. Jeff |

A light inhaled whistle through your teeth works well and you can get different tones from inhaling or exhaling. If it's for a comedic effect, you might be able to process and edit the squeaks of a newborn kitten.

Hahaha! Holy cow man, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy! Happened to me my first year of college and literally whistled ALL the time. I had to clog one side of my nose just to sleep. I tried, to no avail, to change the pitch and maybe make a little side show of my "talent". But yeah, on a more practical level, a light mouth whistle through the teeth is close.

If you want funny, it ain't the same as the ol' days where you could actually get a smarties box that opened up and blow through it (c'mon we've all done it). Instead: used a 'Cherry Blossom' box and it was hilariously flabby and pitchy and so wrong I think they'll probably go for it. Sounded totally pathetic. Personally, I like my original whistling through my teeth because it sounds most natural. |

Back in the day I used to work with a Foley artist with a coke habit who would have been perfect for your needs.

| Haha, what kind of projects do you do? It's no allergie, just a cold, but it was the first time a cold was usefull for something. (used it in a project myself). Just wished at the time I could record more whistle and less "air".
