Learning sound design

Hi, i'm in the process of learning audio post for tv. I know that when in comes to sound effects design it's all about creativity and experimentation, but I was wondering if anybody knows about a good way to learn sound design, maybe some useful websites, books, anything that may help me get going with this.

Thanks.

Hello Angryyouth. Two books that I consider a must have... There are many others of course. The first considers perception of sound, the second is methods and techniques for design. I hope this helps.

01

"Music, Cognition and Computerized Sound: An Introduction to Psychoacoustics"
Perry R. Cook, Ed.
MIT Press, Pub.

02

"Audible Design"
Trevor Wishart
Orpheus the Pantomime Ltd., Pub.

Along the same lines, I'm trying to learn more about creating synthesized sounds to help with sound design/composition. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get started learning that? I borrowed Reason from a buddy because I've heard that's good, but I'm having a hard time finding a place to start.

I have started doing sound design myself recently, everything that you're doing is to picture, and a sound that may seem appropriate when you audition/create it may not work when you watch it back. In my opinion you're best bet is too offer to do it for a student film, or one of the many short film contests.
