Thread Starter | Learning sound design
Hi, i'm in the process of learning audio post for tv. I know that when in comes to sound effects design it's all about creativity and experimentation, but I was wondering if anybody knows about a good way to learn sound design, maybe some useful websites, books, anything that may help me get going with this. Thanks. |

Hello Angryyouth. Two books that I consider a must have... There are many others of course. The first considers perception of sound, the second is methods and techniques for design. I hope this helps. 01 "Music, Cognition and Computerized Sound: An Introduction to Psychoacoustics" Perry R. Cook, Ed. MIT Press, Pub. 02 "Audible Design" Trevor Wishart Orpheus the Pantomime Ltd., Pub. |

Along the same lines, I'm trying to learn more about creating synthesized sounds to help with sound design/composition. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get started learning that? I borrowed Reason from a buddy because I've heard that's good, but I'm having a hard time finding a place to start.

I have started doing sound design myself recently, everything that you're doing is to picture, and a sound that may seem appropriate when you audition/create it may not work when you watch it back. In my opinion you're best bet is too offer to do it for a student film, or one of the many short film contests.
