Nuendo - Switching From PC To Mac

I'm soon gonna switch From PC To Mac With Nuendo /(probably 5).

Also my post house moving up to tapeless. (NO MORE BETA)

Is there anything special I should know before and should I insist to keep my pc?

Honestly , I love the pc , and also I know that 64 bit versions are not supported on mac.

Any help will help me.
Thanx

Hello,

Depends on what you're doing. Why are you switching?

The MacPros only have three open slots, that can be an issue.
The Macs don't support direct monitoring, it's usually not an issue but depends on what you're doing. We don't need it.

Other than that, works fine.

A custom PC with professional support will cost you just about the same. Are you looking to run Soundminer on your new Mac, or what other reason do you have for switching to Mac ?

My best advise is get a stable soundcard and everything will be ok.

I did that change 3 years ago and I'm very happy

I'm working usually on promos And some few minutes clips with Narration.

Direct Monitoring comes with some RME software, Right?

I need a fast computer and for now my pc is Soooooooooo good, everything is responding really really fast .

The people that I'm working for want "compatibility" for all the video and sound editing room as much as they can. Also switching from avid to final cut !?
And about that one more question , how's the export of OMF or XML from final cut to nuendo?
Didn't use a mac for post in 5 years.

Dual boot?

Why not just setup the new mac in dual boot and do a Win XP 64/Win 7 boot partition..?
The Intel Mac makes a great and stable PC in this mode, I use it all the time (and prefer it to Mac OS X). Best quality PC i ever owned

Honestly you will not encounter compatibility problems with them if you're using a PC. Most Apple video codecs (including ProRes) can be read without any issues in N5 on PC.
The only extra little bit of software you need is MacDrive to mount Mac disks on the PC.

Another fact to think about: the performance in PC is far better than in Mac, due the OS X multicore architecture and the f**** ASIO-Core Audio converter.

Vin, at Cubendo forum, did some great research about this. It's worth it 100% to be read.

I run a win7 64 bit machine with nuendo 5 32 and 64

installed software called Macdrive - talks to mac hard drives/disks/servers

The new video engine in nuendo 5 is based on quicktime.. any codec you have that quicktime recognizes.. can now be used in the nuendo session. Video performance is significantly better than before.

No troubles with OMF.

IMO you're safe sticking with your fast PC that you're comfortable with.
