How should I make shorter versions of songs already mastered?

I'm submitting to music libraries songs that were mastered. If accepted, they require shorter versions of it. How do composer usually go about it.
Maybe take the .wav of the mastered song and put it in Cubase and cut and splice it that way or do they make 3 versions from the start before mastering? Seems kinda expensive if you don't know it'll be accepted.
Info would be appreciated. I'm new to this library licensing thing.

Sometimes a composer will provide multiple versions (full, 60, 30, 15, underscore).

Most often they will just provide the full version in stems and it is up to you to edit the track into other versions.

Is it still possible to get the stems for the track? That would be your best option - you'll have more flexibility editing the track. You will then have to master it afterwards of course.

If not, yes, the next best way would be to edit the mastered track in Cubase/Pro Tools - but it is far easier if you get the stems.

Thanks for your input Paul. Yeah going forward I'll set up the multiple versions first before mastering. If you mean by stems as in do I still have the separate tracks I do.
