HD Sync Firmware update fails

Hi folks,

After hours of testing I thought it might be better to post my problem here...

I'm currently running a HD3 on Mac OS 10.6.4 with Pro Tools 8.04 installed. I was able to purchase a second hand HD Sync which works properly but it still has the older firmware on it. When I load protools I get the message that I have to load a newer version of the firmware via the DigiTest Utility (V8.03).

So that's what I tried and every time I Begin the Update it keeps saying that it could not establish the connection with the HD Sync. Its also a brand new cable so nothing is wrong on that side too...

The funny thing is that ProTools detects that the wrong firmware is installed but the Digitest Utility cannot even connect...

I hope someone experienced this before or someone might have a possible solution....

Thanks in advance!

I recently ran into a similar issue, where I had to upgrade 4 PT systems and Sync I/Os. Two worked and two failed. One of the failures was due to a bad Pro Tools 8 install. I uninstalled Pro Tools and used the Pro Tools 8.0 download installer. After that, it worked wonderfully.
The second failure I got around by simply hooking the sync I/O up to a different machine and running the update there.
Do you know anyone around you who might let you hook your Sync I/O up to their system. This would allow you to 1.) Verify that your syncI/O functions properly and 2.) update your firmware.

since it's used, are you sure it's a Sync HD and not just a Sync I/O?

Hi Fatjita,

I also started thinking about that but it sure is a HD Sync... I even desperetly tried to run the Firmware update for the IO version and the same happned, the software could not connect to the Sync.

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Randall,

I also got at that point where i reinstalled ProTools 8 from DVD and ran the 8.04 Updater on top of that. nothing seem to be changed.

I think the only option left is plug it onto another HD system and run the firmware update from there.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience here!

When I had a software failure originally it was because I had installed from the Store Bought DVD. If you have time, try downloading the software from digi, or look for an acquaintance who runs PT 8.
