Thread Starter | Can't bounce to Quicktime Movie with 24-bit audio in PT8
I'm working on my first feature length film and have run into an issue I didn't expect and have no idea how to solve. I had a search around the forum and googled my brain out, but couldn't find an answer. So I'm guessing its a a dumb question that you all know the answer to, but please go ahead and make me feel stupid ![]() So... I'm working in/on a 24-Bit 48k session. But when I select bounce to QuickTime Movie I can only select 16-Bit audio (24 is greyed out). Is there any way to bounce a video file out of PT with 24bit audio attached? |

it should bounce the specs of the session... as a test, try exporting a section of audio with apple+shift+k and check the specs by opening it in quicktime player and hitting apple+i. see what that returns |

.. alternatively use quicktime pro to add the bounced audio to your existing movie and save as new .mov. PT might get a bit too keen and start recompressing...

Bounced out some with the prefs set to 16bit 48k (had choice to go down to 8bit) have no problem bouncing straight audio out as wav or aiff at 24, but when selecting bounce to quicktime movie 16 is the highest and you can't choose the audio format. VLC says it mp4a audio 48k and quicktime tells me its AAC 48k too, no mention of bit depth. Haven't tried marrying the audio with quicktime pro, will give it a shot tomorrow. |

I'm fairly positive that PT can't handle multiple sample rates or bit depths int he same session, though this sounds like that type of problem. If it persists, just marry the bounced audio with video in QT Pro, or try another session similar to this and see if the problem persists across that. |

As far as i can remember "bounce to quicktime" has always been 16bit max...not sure what the reasoning is

Mike: Thanks for the advice, but I'm fairly sure it has nothing to do with multiple sample rates or bit depths in the same session. PT will convert whatever audio you import into the session parameters. D'Animation: Think you're pretty much right. Just another PT limitation. Its kind of strange that you get all these video codec types to pick from when bouncing to QT movie, but the audio selection has a bunch of compression types that I have no idea about (tho I'm fairly sure any compression type will degrade the audio further), the ability of picking anywhere up to 192k (!!!) sample rate and the ability to truncate a further 8bits. But you can't bounce the video with audio at the same sample rate and bit rate that files already are! Seems a bit DigiDumb. Had a quick go in QT, but was having difficulties so thought I'd have a go in Logic Pro 8. So I imported the 24bit 48k audio file, imported the movie. Selected 'Export Audio to Movie' and was then presented with exactly the opposite problem!!!!!!! Logic will only let me export with 32bit or 64bit linear PCM settings!!!! Anything below 32bit is greyed out!!!!! Am I missing some Post Production golden rule here or something??!!??? I thought 24b/48k would have been a good format to work with. |

Ahah!!! Deselected Floating point from Linear PCM settings when exporting audio to movie in Logic. Now I can export at 24/48! Yay! |
