Go get some Chet Atkins records..er...CDs. Chester and Lester is a good start. Unbelievable playing. Most anything with Bella Fleck, Sam Bush and that crowd will blow even the most jaded non-country listening people away. Other than classical music, it's one of the only genres that still sort of uses dynamics.

thumbsup. I will do when I get the chance.

The book Behind the Glass has given me a whole list of legendary Country engineers whom I haven't heard of and in the dark about the genre.

I don't like country music. Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Hank Williams, and Patsy Cline. That's about what I can take. Oh, and Flat and Scruggs. Oh, and maybe some of Alan Lomax's field recordings.......All right you can add Johny Cash and Chet Atkins to the list, but that's it!

Wow...GG Allin. Now there's a name I never expected to see here! I know GG only from reputation, but I used to run into Johnny Cash often at the Hendersonville Kroger. I don't think they were much alike <g>.

he met johnny cash and june cash at a venue on his(gg's) last tour. june told him to stop abusing himself so much. he basically said it wouldn't be rock and roll then. with gg, you either get it or you don't. you really gotta dig deep with his music to get to the better stuff.

THERE'S REALLY OFFENSIVE MUSIC OF HIS, SO I WOULDN'T PURSUE IT IF YOU GET OFFENDED EASY.

there. had to bold that disclaimer

anyways you also have to be careful what live album you get. i have albums where he's so drunk he can't sing, and the whole show is just him grumbling like a moron. some would argue that he does that anyway.his early music was very iggy and the stooges style.

apparently he has two country albums, carnival of excess, and the troubled troubadour. i got the troubled troubadour.

anyways his two country albums have a patsy cline cover, a hank williams jr cover/revision, a david allen coe cover/revision, a warren zevon cover, and a cover of "dead flowers" by the rolling stones. along with several originals.

one of my favorite tracks not on the country albums, he did a "i still miss someone" cover from johnny cash, of which he remembered about 1/3rd of the words. which he comments "i remembered that one!" after he plays about a 1/3rd of it. batting 1,000 gg!
