Neumann shotguns

Just wondering.
Am I the only one who's not a big fan of the Neumann shotguns for dialogue?
For recording effects I think they are really good. Lots of detail etc.
Over here in the Netherlands a lot of production sound mixers use them.
When it comes to mixing dialogue pre-dubs and especially matching ADR, I think they always sound a bit unfocussed. (and then I do not mean bad boom-operating)
They tend to pick up a lot ambience and reflections.
Quit good for documentary-films but less good for fiction IMO. Especially if you compare them to the mkh416 or the cs3e.
Any thoughts?

I'm not either! I have a KMR 81 that I always find to be TOO bright and over-the-top. I always go back to my Sennheiser. That's not to say the 81 doesn't come in handy sometimes, but overall I don't have as much luck with it...

I have a KMR82 that I used for many years and it served me very well. It sounds fine on dialog, but doesn't get a lot of use in favor of a Sanken CS3e, which has more reach, less side and rear pickup, is much smaller and much lighter. But I keep the Neumann as a 2nd shotgun.....

Yeah, picks up a lot more side and rear than many of the others I've used.

Love it for fx, and if I can control the environment well enough for dialogue as well. When a mic picks up this much high end, and you need to get rid of some noise with an EQ in the 6-12k range, then this mic is great too.

Very smooth too. Requires a little less work on focusing on the talent. Anyone moves around a bit on ADR, this has done better for me.
