Thread Starter | Optical to Analog convertor for TV to amp, any tips?
Hi, Being a full time post mixer doesn't mean I seem to have the same state of mind for my own TV set at home. I just bought a new Tv today and I feed my amp with my stereo speaker set with the analog output of the digital TV encoder, which is connected to the tv with hdmi.Off course this seems to give a slight delay: I hear a small delay when I put the sound of my speakers and TV set at the same time, and when I mute the TV like I want to, my image is slightly async off course. So, I want to feed the sound of my TV directely to the amp. Now, the TV only has a digital audio output, and my Cambridge Audio amp doesn't have a digital input, only many RCA audio ones. So, any of you guys experiences with those little optical to analog convertor boxes? Are they any good, any advice? Thanks for your insight,

get a receiver that carries hdmi inputs and outputs - they all do now. this way you pass the hdmi from the dvd player/cable box/ps3 into the amp, and then connect 1 hdmi cable from that to the tv . you can probably do a cursory search and find optical to rca but then it's all micky mouse with delay, better to invest in a better amp and do it right |

Any tips for HDMI receivers. The local supplier of my TV just says: 'well, that delay just can't be solved, learn to live with it'. Excuse me? Are people that tolerante when it comes to async? |

Some of the receivers offer a built in adjustable audio delay to compensate for screen lag. Which assumes that picture is usually late. If your sound is late it will be much harder to compensate for that.

Yamaha and pioneer make a few good ones in the 300-400 market, very sensible and have usually 3 hdmi inputs and 1 out + pass through. not sure about the auto delay for pix, know that can be an issue - not sure if they solved it

Denon makes a nice box, and Outlaw also makes a nice, but more expensive one as well.
