Delivery Spec - what is AES2???

Hi, quick (perhaps dumb) question I need some clarification on.

I have received the following deliver spec for a show I'm mixing:
HDCAM MASTER

Track 1 = Full Mix Stereo Left
Track 2 = Full Mix Stereo Right
Track 3 = Fully Mixed Stereo - Left AES2
Track 4 = Fully Mixed Stereo - Right AES2
I know 'standard' AES is AES3. I suspect AES2 refers to the fact that AES carries the left/right on one cable and that they are basically asking for Tracks 3/4 to be a digital copy of the master? I did some searching (AES, Google, Wiki, Here) and came up with this
AES-2id-2006: AES information document for digital audio engineering -- Guidelines for the use of the AES3 interface
and I also found the actual AES2 spec but it's not applicable.
AES2-1984 (r2003): AES Recommended Practice -- Specification of loudspeaker components used in professional audio and sound reinforcement
FYI They are asking for a 48kHz 20 bit master! I don't think I've ever delivered something 20 bit other than on ADAT or perhaps consumer DAT in the early 90's

Any help would be appreciated.

- Mark

AES2 (AES/EBU) is the unbalanced version of AES3 (AES/EBU).

balanced AES3 sends the signal inverted on the pins so you can reduce or eliminate noice on the cable. AES2 sends the signal on one cable without the inverted signal on the other... This shouldn't affect whats on the TAPE. Beats me.

on the 20bit / 48Khz.. not common but not unusual.

gotta love un-standardized standards.

I'd have to read the full Audio spec to try to figure out what they want. Other than 2 stereo mixes Track 1/2 and Track 3/4

cheers

48K/20bit is the DigiBeta resolution. I've hit it with both 16 and 24bit and it dither-maticly seems to work either way.

Thanks to both of you! Very helpful indeed... as far as the "other specs" that's pretty much all they said except for 1k ref level = -20 dBfs and that peak level = -12 dBfs

that's about it...

Thanks again

so just for curiosity sake, does this spec call for mirrored channels

1/2 analog mix
3/4 digital mix (same mix as 1/2)

??

-or-

Wondering how two channels on AES2 will got to track 3 of the HDCam and likewise for track 4.
