what is the center section of this console setup?

The pic is from this tour of walt disney studios and this is the ADR room. What is the center section (between the icon/d-command and expander) that the engineer is using?

that is Doc Kane's old console plopped in-between the D-Control.

I think it might be an old Lar-Tec ADR console, but maybe one of the Disney guys can clarify that- its been a while since I was in that room...

Back in the 80s I used to fill in for Doc at Disney when he was sick or on vacation. That center section sure looks old school, kind of like Doc. It reminds me a lot of the ADR controller we used to use back then. I can't remember the make, but they were all over Hollywood. I don't think its a LarTec. I remember them as being light gray. Love the VU meters. There are 14 of them, which reminds me of when we used to record ADR on a 16 track recorder because track 15 was left blank so the TC recorded on channel 16 wouldn't bleed into the ADR on track 14, which meant you only needed 14 VUs.

I certainly remember those days! We'd always leave track 23 open with TC on track 24. Fun!

And don't forget, monitoring an adjacent track for a punch-in was a no-no.
And don't put cymbals on an outside track...
Aah, the good 'ole days...

And, as the 24th track (or the 1st) was the weakest track (due to mechanical issues), there were problems with recorded timecode sometimes, and "jam sync" was often the best friend...

Sometimes if I have a hard time going to sleep, I try to remember the alignment procedure for an analog 2".

Hi Freq record bias...1.75 dB over peak at 30 ips for Ampex 456

Repro align 10k, 1k, 100Hz +3 on the meters using a 250 nW/m ref tape for a +6 recording

Record alignmennnn zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

No its actually a new retro-looking console built by Disney engineering....not a Lartec. It does all the programming for rec in/out, rec, reh, pb modes and ahead-loop-past monitor and cue switching. PT is the recorder and the D-Control is controlling the playback track monitoring system. The retro center is also It is also the analog front end.
They may be using a Soundmaster for the master logic control and synchronization.

It's very cool....something avid could map to their surfaces but that would NEVER happen!

thanks for the details on that- it has been a few years since I have done any ADR with Doc. That console is very cool, and Doc is a true master at what he does....
