Matchframe Auction on Thursday

Matchframe is having their liquidation auction on Thursday. I went by to take a look today. Lots of Avid, Unity, ProTools gear. Dorrough Meters, Herman Miller Chairs, Complete audio and video bays, LM-100, Video decks, furniture, parts, monitors etc. You can download the link of equipment below.

Very sad to see another place out of business.

The catalog mentioned "DigiDesign Protocol Mixer" as part of the Audio A and B lots. Did you notice what kind of mixer they are talking about?

Also, there is 9.75% sales tax plus a 12.5% buyers' premium tacked onto every sale, so whatever you bid, make sure you add 22.25% extra onto the total.

Probably "ProControl".

From a cursory look, they have four Pro Control bays and a couple of D-Commands.

I seem to be on a mailing list that gets notices of auctions like this sent to me once in awhile. The deals never seem to be all that great, and they always seem to be as-is where-is. ARE there good deals to be had in these situations? How would you test something fairly complex (like a PT system) to know you weren't getting hosed?

Thanks, KK. I feel like an idiot that I couldn't figure that out.

No need...it certainly is a forgettable piece of technology. We dumped ours years and years ago.

These auctions of studios, especially the old established ones can be interesting . . . sort of like slowing down on the highway to view an accident. But my experience is that anything vintage will be snapped up by internet retailers (assuming they have a live internet feed), and anything else will be overpriced when you factor in the premium.

The chatter among the attendees may be worth more than anything else.

Most of the audio rooms are listed as 1 Lot # for the whole room. Bummer.

They're not, however, doing that with their bazillion Herman Miller chairs. I vote that we all go buy one and race 'em down Hollywood Way.

Right down the street from Matchframe, there's a restaurant called Taste Chicago. That can be the finish line of the race, and then you can have my chair. Will that work for you?

Yeah, guess it is. So the race would be classified as a sprint.

That's probably better, I doubt many of us are up for long distance endurance races.

Yes..Unfortunately they are not listing any of the ProControls separately. You have to bid on the entire audio room. Most of the ProControl rooms had 1 ProControl main section, 1 Fader Pack and and Edit Pack. I think the small room had only a ProControl main section, but they want you to bid on the Lynx modules, ProTools, meters, desk, mic-pre, monitors, etc. Each room slightly different.

The only room that was fairly parsed out separately was the D-command room.

I was hoping to bid on some fader packs just for spare parts..but does not look like that will be possible.

Best to race them to Porto's Bakery at Magnolia and Hollywood Way.

We'll Race to get Hot Dogs, they shoot over to Porto's for tasty pastries and then we can spin around on the herman millers until we puke! Sounds like a plan.

PS: if they have Herman Millers, they'll be gone in minutes. Best purchase I ever made.

Meet you guys at Portos and buy you a cheese roll!

I toured the place yesterday to look at the stuff, and a bunch of the computers were already taken out. Most of the big lots still had them, and there's a ton of audio hardware, but who knows what's left, as the auction's going right now.

Ended up getting a mint Sennheiser 416p for $550. Not a bad deal.

The Jensen Twin Servos went for $350.

D Command (24 wide) with Xmon went for $13,000.

The ProTools rooms (entire room) with 24 fader procontrols + edit packs, twin servo mic pres, dorroughs, monitors, G5, desk, Lynx BMC w 3 modules, and various other junk went for around $10,000.

Oddly...a pair of Auratones with a symetrix amp went for $400. Que?!!!

Interesting experience.

I just bid on some stuff at another online auction. Also a post house, RavensWorks studio's in Venice just over a week ago.

The really tasty goodies I was interested in sat idle and I got my hopes up.....an Apogee Big Ben, Sound Perf De-Esser's, Hafler 1500 amps, NS 10-m's, Auratone's and some other stuff were what I had my eye on. All bidding started at $1. LOL......I'm looking at a Big Ben sitting there at $1 for a few days.......I'm thinking "Is this possible.....I could get this for a few $'s?" A day or so before it closed it just exploded and stuff flew out of my price range.

They did sell 2 Fairlight Dream Constellation consoles-one at $4800 and one at $3500. That seems a real steal but I cannot find any info on what they cost new. Some nice monitors too...PMC subs and speakers, Bryston amps yada yada.
