Car interior verb automation hell

Here's a practical question for you folks;

Probably the most int/ext cuts on a car interior (you know, the inside perspective then back out through the windshield obviously outside the vehicle) I've ever faced on a current project.

How do you folks approach verb (5.1 show, natch) in situations like that? Ditch it? Keep it across the fronts only? It would sound like 'patooee' to go bopping back and forth on the full surround verb. Keep it 'subtly' in all speakers? Can't see that happening...

My tendency right now is leaning toward: surround verb? what surround verb? It's a car interior, not a hockey arena.

Thanks.
Jeff

No surround verb at all.
Mono, straight up the center for me.

yup.. right up the middle... don't draw attention to cuts and don't pull audience out suspended disbelief.... keep it simple.

cheers

Another vote for mono... Unless of course your director is insisting...

As far as verb... TLSpace has some decent car impulses - I used them on the last feature I did, since the interior stuff was largely ADR...worked great.

Thanks, folks. That's what I figured would be the response. K.I.S.S.
And, yes, S.T.S. Brent. Correct.

Howard--I'm a TLSpace *****...
(apparently I can't say W-H-O-R-E)
those guys have done it up right. And because of the K.I.S.S. theory, I'm always in favour of IR's that show nice little picture (love the one of the mic in a metal wash bucket. Used that one yesterday for a character screaming inside a blast furnace...hahaha)

Movin' on but by all means, if others have stuff to add/debate; that's what the thread is for!

p.s. Howard, your 'canna change the laws of physics'...oh man if clients were only on board with that, hahaha

I had a similar scene recently, but the characters were listening to some loud music through the car stereo as well as dialogue. The director is a big fan of 5.1, but for me panning the music+car verb in the surrounds was pulling me straight out of the scene.

Despite the director wanting it big and wide, after a few playbacks and some discussion we settled on centre speaker with a little extra width for the music and no surrounds.
