Vegas is a nice multitrack audio editor and was before it got sidetracked into its current use as a video editor.

We use Wavelab and Samplitude. Wavelab for the two track stuff and Samplitude for the multitrack. Both are very stable and have a lot of features that make my job easier.

YMMV

It's worked very well. Both the Lunx and SF 7 won't be able to make the jump to a new PC, so I guess I'll look at WaveLab then.

That's what happened to me. My old SF8, the last update I got, would not work in Windows 7, so I looked for alternatives to the batch export of regions in Soundforge. That was my old method of exporting processed tracks.

For quick cuts I will now sometimes use Wavosaur and Izotope RX, which is a great editor by itself once you get to know it.

I shunned Wavelab when it first appeared because of its uncanny resemblance to Cubase in all its interface setup. Soundforge comformed to system standards, and I practically never had to look in to the manual. Wavelab has improved a great deal I'm told, but I'm simply over two-track editors in that price range, and multitrack editors are DAWs, which is where Reaper just kills everything else in terms of speed, portability(USB stick install is easy) and feature set. Except for the companion program Autorender that I use, it's all available on the Mac too.

I use PT all day every day. I love it.

But jesus people.. relax. There are some things it doesn't do well.

For quick 2-track editing/rendering, and particularly for batch processing, WaveLab is a freakin' champ. And WaveLab 7 looks great.

No, with multitrack, you would be mixing and most people who know PT don't use bounce. Who would mix multiple tracks to stereo without listening? I wouldn't... If you set up the mix buss properly and monitor an audio track in record, there's no need to bounce...EVER.

I'm no PT zealot...I have most of the software mentioned in this thread, and I've beta tested about two-thirds of it. Wavelab is fine.I wouldn't use Wavelab 5 for SRC (scary!), but Wavelab 6 Crystal Resampler is peachy keen. I like Steinberg (they're great people) and one of our three mix rooms is just for Nuendo. I still wouldn't advocate mixing tracks w/o listening to them.

But the OP asked for two-track sw, and in PT, you don't have to bounce. It's just not true, no matter how many times you say it. In fact, if they removed BTD from PT most pros would not miss it. It's often a bad accident waiting to happen.
Thanks for that page..

of note is that Logic 8 Leopard performs better than PT.

Reading out in iZotope RX.
also. the purple color is at around -110db to -120db. This isn't much of a problem at all really.

good to see that Minnetonka AudioTools AWE did well there too.
It's about the best batch processor out there.

Anyone else out there in post or games that can recommend a new 2-track editor that they like? I searched for other threads first but only found results talking about 2-track editors with music as the focus. The focus here would be on fast editing large groups of files: quick topping and tailing, fast volume/EQ changes, click/pop removal on VO lines, batch processing, etc.

Thanks in advance.
Could you go in to more detail regarding what processes crash Sound Forge? I am seriously considering buying Sound Forge Pro 10. I don't do audio for video (I primarily do audio mastering), and I don't really need all of the editing capabilities of SF. However, I am quite interested in having the iZotope SRC, iZotope MBIT+ dithering, and Sony's audio restoration tools available to me. It looks as though Sony has thrown in some other cool features as well, such as high quality time compression and expansion and lots of other stuff, all for $375. It seems like a steal to me, but if it's crashing all the time, then I am not so sure.

Thanks,
Chris

I'm not sure if anyone has tried GoldWave, but for me, this is how Sound Forge should have been. It's been really stable, great for batch processing, and very fast.
