I think you asked for an explanation of everything related to a whole lot of subjects without really having a specific topic of interest.

I'm not sure what kind of answer you would like for a recipe (think that's what you were asking) for "great production." That's a huge subject. Fortunately a ton of subjects related to great production can be found all over this forum and other GS forums!

Search will be your best tool to take the first steps toward figuring out post-production. If you're looking for a way to mix for radio or are trying to get your head around standards and common practices, spend some time searching. Chances are you will find a ton of stuff that will be helpful.

For some insight as to how they are created, this guy has a youtube channel dedicated to it. His stuff is pretty good. YouTube - Radio Production Sweeper Building

Other than that, just call a local radio station and ask to speak with an Imaging Director. Maybe they'll let you sit in on a session.

Great radio imaging is produced and written to adequately sell the station in a way the audience can relate to and fits into the "sound" of the station. Every station is different and I don' think there is a book or DVD's to give you advice. My suggestion is to actually get a book on marketing and read up on how to relate to an audience and sell a product. Also if you want to hear how others are doing it just listen to other stations and see what they're up to. Tons stream live on the net. Some younger stations want fast, flashy promos with lots of effects and music that changes very rapidly. Others market to an older audience where clever writing is the most important thing. Then there are news/talk/sports stations.

Not sure where you are now but getting a job at a station and being their imaging director is the best way.

Many times the commercial copywriter and producer has different people than imaging. Other stations have the same people.

Jingles are normally not done by the imaging director and is handed off to people that specialize in that field. Ones that have recording studios that do music, since there are often many singers on jingles.

Like RScott says..it's a huge subject. I know a bit about it since I worked in radio for 25 years and was imaging director for 4 stations. Working in the biz can help you understand a bit better.

Check out "Radio and Production" magazine (rapmag.com). It's been around for about 20 years. Buy some back issues. It covers the topic better than any magazine I know.
