If meta data becomes a requirement, this will all disappear. Dialnorm is similar to Replaygain in the music world.

p.s. kinda like when the Canadian Television Fund became 'Canadian Media Fund' with a new group of board members (I think 7?) and they were all associated with broadcasters. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Because, of course, by the Canadian Minister in charge of that kinda stuff says "The Canada Media Fund will help our producers and broadcasters to do what they do best: create, entertain, and connect with Canadians," ... yeah, and directly fund their own programs instead of awarding funding based on open application from independent and network-based producers.

So it is not surprising to me if U.S. broadcasters don't care about their own promos.

now where's that 'off-topic' emoticon...

No kidding. I've fallen asleep three times trying to get through that.

Just get to the point already. Some things just don't need to be that complicated.

That being said, I appreciate this thread providing the info.

I thought it was a very informative SMPTE meeting but do agree it was a shame there was not time for an open discussion.

It was stated at the meeting for those who do not have time to read the whole of A85 at least read the Annex H and I which are quick reference guides. Should really be required reading for everyone!

It was also mentioned at the meeting that the slides would be posted at some location at a latter date. Has anyone found those yet or knows where to look?

Thanks

George

soundfx,

I'm sorry you deleted your message. I was going to quote you and ask what LKFS (Infinite All) are your spots coming in at?

Yeah and I just received tech specs for another network today and I'm just thinking "c'mon, people, just give me a one sheet here! sum it up!"

And, seriously? "vocal identification?" You want me to say "Left...Center..." so I can Q.C. your facility for you so you can call your union tech to touch it if something 'accidentally' is miswired?

Ahhh... delivering to the CBC are we? Gotta love it! (BTW, I have those files if you don't want to make your own...)

It might be my inner geek/Scotty, but I didn't find A-85 THAT bad. I mean it'll never be light reading, but it's a good overview of the reasons and processes they went through to get to where they were. Of course, I'm the kind of guy who likes to the details on stuff like this. I'm sure others would rather just get the important points.
