PT session framerate

Quick one - when you set the timecode rate in the session settings, are you actually changing the speed of anything or just shifting the display of the time code ruler?

thanks!

For pure audio-work, the frame-rate is meaningless.

Hi,
Changing the frame rate in the Session Setup window alters the Timecode Ruler and, with a Sync IO (in Generate Mode) changes the timecode that's being output to other machines. There's no speed change.
The only time a speed change happens is if you engage one of the pull up/down settings.
Best,
Joe

just thought i'd add it can be quite useful to work in the same frame rate as the video in your session.

that way you can nudge through frames to get impacts etc bang on

Ok - I've been using it like a grid...I like to set my nudge value to quarter frames when I'm getting especially detailed.

If you're going to get that detailed, just go into slip sync instead of grid... why 'nudge' less than a frame if you're not scrubbing a picture event.

And, in the end-----play it back in real time and watch it. If it looks in sync... move on.

If you're seeing a quarter frame, watch in in HD broadcast.

Hah.

The main thing is just to be certain you are working in the same frame rate as your video. I've started sessions many times in the past with my default settings only to realize midway thru that the timecode is not syncing to the video burned-in timecode. Silly mistakes, but annoying.

I work in grid mode for most sound to picture work and only really move things around outside of the grid if they need to be more accurate than a frame. If you accidentally bump a region out of sync, it makes it really simple to drop it back into perfect sync.

I don't think I know about this mode - what is slip sync?

I think he means edit in slip mode, or temporarily disengaging grid mode (holding command (or control on Windows I think) while dragging a region while in grid mode, lets you move region as if you would be in slip mode).

Yes, that is correct. Your 'modes' at top left of screen. Shuffle, Slip, Spot, Grid.
