Okay, here we go. This post has two speech+silence attachments.

Someone will probably say that the noise can't be heard during the speech, but I don't think that's the point. The noise is there, and recording low level foley is hard with this high noise floor.

First listen to ToInfinity-MKH416.mp3, if you don't hear the noise after the "fake acting" speech (i hear the noise clearly!); put on your headphones!

Next up is ToInfinity-TLM103.mp3 at the same preamp level. The noise floor is lower and it doesn't have the high end hiss the MKH416 has. Instead we can hear some buzzing mixed with noise. I don't think it's approved, but we are closer.

Distance: 1.6 feet (50 cm)

So, is this normal, or is the noise floor high?

I've always used a Neumann as the room mic and a Senn. shotgun for the main mic. Foley always sounded wonderful!!!!
