Thread Starter | Silent Bounced Files in Logic Pro 8
Hello, first time in 10 years for this problem with Logic bouncing. When bouncing different versions of 20 second mixes over and over (basically I'm creating ringtones with different names) lately I've found that 30% of the final mixes come out completely silent. I am bouncing "offline" and don't have problems when I mix down a single music track or whatever, it is only when I'm doing like 100 mixes in an hour or two, over and over. Why is this happening?? It's a huge time waster because I now have to check each bounced file to make sure it has sound and then I have to go back and redo the 30% that are silent. Nothing is soloed, nothing is muted This has been happening only for the past month or so after years of no problems with Logic 5, 6, 7, and 8. What's going on? Please help, thanks much |

if you are just changing the name of the file, why not do all the duplicate/rename in the Finder? Or is it 100 completely different ringtones?

yes different name tones, so I swap out the name and rebounce ... continues to be frustrating and bewildering ... perhaps I will have to go through the agony of deleting Logic and reloading the program |

Try doing the following: Select the region you want to bounce so it is highlighted (top half turns black) Then in the toolbar click "set locators" Click bounce and off you go. Have had some problems in the past where Logic would bounce the song with 5-10 seconds of silence in the front of the track if it didn't start from 1 1 1 1. Not sure what the deal is, but I always select the region and set the locators now; cleared up everything and doesn't take too much time for a little insurance policy that you're bouncing just what you need. As always YMMV Best,

Hey thanks for taking the time to respond to this mind boggling silent bounce issue. You're right it occurs most frequently when not starting at 1 1 1 1. I tried your method and it cut down the occurrence of the silent file thing to about 10% now instead of 30% Weirdly, it only happens when doing tons of short 20 second clips very quickly, like one per minute over and over and over for a couple hours .. never with full length tracks anyhow, thanks again |

maybe post the specs of your system? computer/ HD space/speed /how many tracks/ interface / how everything is routed? It seems to me (without seeing/hearing the problem) that it might be a hardware (computer or interface) issue or how your preferences are set in Logic (too low of a buffer, latency, outboard gear for processing, sample rate conversion/sample rate conversion issue). Would love to help you get to the bottom of the problem though. Lets start with computer specs and maybe a screen shot of your settings in logic (apple key and , key then click on audio). |

I took one of your suggestions that the buffer might be too high so i changed them in audio settings to 128 and "small" now i've burned 10 tracks in a row very quickly and they are all working keeping fingers crossed ![]() thanks! |

| it's worth reading up on disk fragmentation in OSX. While file fragmentation is not an issue, lack of contiguous free space, especially on your system drive, can cause you a lot of headache. Treat free space below 5% as alarming as OSX is not so graceful at handling free space fragmentation. At best it only slows down. Worst you will lose data as system tasks time out or throw errors. 4.5G is too low. (I've been at 0 in Leopard. It wasn't fun.)
