Does anyone know this person...

Hi all...

I am reluctant to do this but there is a good amount of money at stake and as it is I am undergoing chemotherapy and don't have the means to track it down from Australia.

Does anyone in the post industry know a gentleman by the name of Christoff Chase? I need to get in touch with him regarding a purchase I made from him quite a few weeks ago. He is not responding to my emails, perhaps some of you may know of him?

Please pm me if you have any info.

Thanks in advance.

A bit more Googling and it turns out his name is Christoper Chase and he lives in Portsmouth , New Hampshire, not Arizona as his email profile indicates.

This is his myspace page.

Christopher Chase & The Bird Factory (Christopher Chase) | MySpace

He has a studio called The Bird Factory. If anyone can help recover the gear (2 x SSL Xrack Pre's) or money from him I can offer $100 usd for your trouble.

Attached is a photo of the guy and a tattoo he has on his right arm.

Any help is appreciated.

Hey man, sorry to hear that, it sucks to have to chase your things across the oceans. I guess you'd have much more exposure if you asked Geert to move this thread to:

if you can PROVE, as in court of law, PROVE... the stuff is yours and you want it back and that he has NOT paid for it.
I have a *LOT* of law enforcement friends all over New Hampshire I ride motorcycles with and hang out with... a couple are in Portsmouth.
I might be able to help.

It's a little grey. as a civil matter....

You would have to lodge a formal complaint in the town he lives in. With appropriate documentation. THen get a process server to serve him. Then you would have to go to court and drag him in. Then you could get a judgment against him for the money. Then sell the judgment to a collection company for 50 cents on the dollar. or maybe just maybe you could get the judge to order the return of the gear.

If you look at it as a federal offense (Mail fraud)... you need to get to the DA in Portsmouth and provide all the appropriate information. They would have to decide to prosecute or not. a toss up .. unless you have a solid case that would be a no brainer for them. here, the gear becomes evidence and might sit on a shelf for a year before you get it back. Or you might get them to document and release it.

Or, you could get an "agent" to knock on his door and collect.

cheers

Thanks Geo. I have an email trail and paypal receipts, that's it.

I actually bought two SSL X-Rack mic pre's from him via ebay, paid by paypal. I have filed complaints there too but I really needed the pre's for a job. In his last email he said something about floods and power outages in his area being the reason he was delayed, which I can understand, but since then I have sent an email a week and have had no reply. He runs a studio called The Bird Factory and his myspace page says he is an AES member.

It was $950usd... about $1,100aud... that I spent with him. When you're only able to work a bit at a time due to chemotherapy it's hard to just let $1k go like that.

Paypal should return the money after a month, if you file a complaint with them. If you used a credit card, you could also check if they have some sort of protection.

Thanks. Treatment is going well. Cancer levels are 93% less than when we started. Still a ways to go but we're certainly on the right road. Bowel is non-active... now just need to finish off the liver.
