ok so, after verifying and repairing permissions on my startup disc and my 2 external drives, and doing a clean uninstall of PT and then a fresh re install via DigiDelivery (recommended by the guy at Digidesign tech support) I now just get this when trying to install.

It's helpful that it isn't vague in the slightest, so I can easily pinpoint the problem.

erm...

I think you were a bit too fast with deleting certain things.

At this point you're better off with a clean install of your OS and software. (make a clone of this, then you'll be up and running in no time, whenever you install new software and something goes wrong)

Basically an extension on what Georgia mentioned, in that info window I would enable 'ignore ownership on this volume'. I have set this on all externals that are going to be connected to several computers (or network drives connected to more than 1 computer).

Cheers for the tips Geert (and everyone else in this thread).

Finally got it working!

When I did the clean uninstall, it trashed the prefs and databases associated with the previous installation attempts, but ignored earlier digidesign databases I found on my drives that related to working on different PT rigs (the studios at my Uni) from a few years ago.

Having trashed those as well, the installation went through fine and all my drives are now valid audio volumes!

Ahhhhh. reliefs...
