Quick question about Nickelodeon specs

In a bit of a crunch and I'm waiting for a couple of people to return calls... Anyone who's familiar with Nickelodeon delivery specs:

"In program audio should average -15dBFS, and not exceed -10dBFS".

Is that a misprint? Can anyone confirm an average program level of -15dBFS for Nickelodeon? Seems high to me.

Thanks,
Neal

Since it's "dBFS", it sounds like it's "Peak Average" not VU or RMS Average. Otherwise, you'd have to slam a limiter really, really, really hard

Yeah they are in peak average land with that figure. I have done work and seen work done for nick and the other viacom channels that have that spec. And in general it doesn't mean much. Don't cross -10, that's pretty much all you have to worry about. I have seen shows and split tapes come across my way that the dialog consistently hits -10 every time. So you can be as loud as you want or be a bit more reserved, it's up to you.

That's what I was hoping. Thanks!

My first thought upon seeing that number was "Sweet Jeezus that's loud!"
