Thread Starter | DM1000 User Defined Keys Hi there, I am trying to assign my User defined keys to route talkback to various Omni Outs of the DM1000. Has anybody had any success with this? For example, Omni 7 feeds my Headphone mix, and 8 feeds the booth loudspeaker. I wanted it so that with one press of one button I could talk to the headphones and the other to the loudspeaker. I have set it up this way but it buttons are not turning on the talkback. Any thoughts? Nick |

| It looks from the manual that, although you can assign the UDKeys so that the Talkback will be assigned to a particular slot, you'll still have to hit the actual Talkback button to communicate, so, two buttons not one. Is that what you meant? Sonny Keyes Ricochet Audio Toronto |

Thread Starter | Hi Sonny thanks for your response, I have been away so apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Yes you are quite right, I still have to do the talkback as well, I didn't seem to pick that up from the manual. The feature is still handy but it would be nice if it was just one!! Many thanks Nick |

| Actually, I hadn't used the UDKs at all on my own DM-1000, and your question got me reading up and realizing that they are much more powerful than I had imagined. Now I'm trying out my own timesavers, so thank you! Sonny Keyes Ricochet Audio Toronto |

Thread Starter | Me neither! What kind of things are you planning on using them for? I'm told a lot of people use them for DAW transport but I can't see that saving me much time.. Nick |

| You're right - they're not nearly as useful as I was hoping. I thought it would be nice to have single buttons to turn automation from "read" to "off" and back, (instead of mousing through Pro Tools' little button menus) but assigning those to UDK 11 & 12 did nothing in Pro Tools. I was able to get it to Play, Stop and Record, but those are just as easy using the computer keyboard, so I guess I'll just ignore them again. ![]() Sonny Keyes Ricochet Audio Toronto |

| You might be able to achieve this using the GPI, provided you don't use the built-in talkback mic. The way I would accomplish this is to set two (2) channels to the same analog input. Channel X would have the mic input routed to omni output 7. Channel Y would have the mic input routed to omni output 8. If you had two switches connected to GPI inputs, then you could configure switch one to turn on channel X, and switch two to turn on channel Y. I work with people who use the user defined keys for transport control. You have to get used to the responsiveness though, as they can be more of a hindrance than a help when the deck goes flying well past where you wanted to shuttle to.
