Moving Sessions Between Pro Tools and AMS Neve

I've got a project coming up in about 5 weeks, where I will be tracklaying in Pro Tools, but the mix will be completed on AMS Neve.

The mixer has experienced problems in the past with the translation of OMF files from Pro Tools; as apparently the AMS Neve misses information from the Pro Tools OMF (such as fades).

I've been reading up on the Solid State Logic Pro Convert software as a solution. Does anyone have any experience on this software, and sending sessions between Pro Tools and AMS Neve? Or is there a particular way you should manage your sessions so OMFs translate correctly? Also, is there any difference between the PC and Mac versions? The mac version is nearly a £100 cheaper here in the UK!

Thanks in advance.

There are a couple options. You can export an AAF instead of an OMF. AAFs tend to be more stable and I'm 90% sure NEVEs computers accept them . * I may get arguments against this, but that is my experience. Also, you can patch into the NEVE's front end line inputs and use a PTs rig as a playback. I personally like to do this because it allows me the possibility to use some of my "in the box" plugin (delays, verbs and other mods).

You should just ask the mixer what he likes and facilitate.

In London's studios I've seen:
AMS Neve AudioFile
SSL Sceneria (not so long time ago)
DAR (Digital Audio Research)
BBC is still on SADiE
..... (put other names here)

There's also one company in Holland still using the AudioFile as well... (no I am not going to name names of the competition :-)

Last one here went down 2 years ago.

Can it even open anything other than a audio or Audiofile file? I never worked on one, but I suspect (guess) it can't.

The Pro-Convert does not list the Neve at all.

I'd find some one who has it to run a test.

I used to work for Molinare and we had the exact same issue all the time. All dubbing theatres were Audiofile-based. That was in 2006 (not 1996!) After quite a bit of research I'd had success going PT->Audiofile with Pro-Convert (it was called Cui Bono Soft EDL Convert back then). We've trialled all sorts of EDL converters in the past and had no luck, but this was the only one that transfered the fades correctly. Haven't used Audiofile since 2007, so things might have changed. But as far as I remember, I used to export a Pro Tools 5 session, bring it into Pro-Convert and export to OMF 1.0. There might have also been an option to make it AMS Audiofile compatible or something similar. Only linear fades, but it was fairly straightforward and worked fine.
I've heard Molinare have now upgraded all their suites to Pro Tools, but it's amazing how some of the big post houses in London still save project files to floppy disks in 2010...

Back in the days (not so long ago) where we used our Fairlight MFX3+ everyday, AVTransfer saved our bacon more than once. I also have a fond memory of spending two whole days trying to import an OMF properly into our Akai DD1500 also...
Of course with use, things get easier and you know how to streamline the process to make things go smoother.
