Scouting for VO talents, need agency names.

Howdy,

I'm trying to scout a Voice actor for a 90 minute animation,
kids voice

Can you all point me in the right direction for Voice Agencies,
looking for non-union actors,

We are trying to get a few prices. Like decent to really good, to using an actual hollywood actor or equivelent voice actor.

Just need the best voice agencies to deal with

Thanks a million thumbsup

If you are looking for non-union talent, you're probably not going to find much through an agency. I would check out http://voice123.com/ where you can submit a script or part of one, describe the character and get .mp3 auditions delivered to you via email or FTP. You can also do a search for voices if you just want to hear general tone.

As far as experience, speed and price go, it's all over the map. Generally you get what you pay for, but I've worked with some very expensive VO artists who were horrible and some reasonable ones who were stunning.

If you are looking for a character voice, you will probably want someone with acting experience as well as VO experience.

+1 on Voice123. Great interface, excellent features, and, most importantly, it has a wide variety of voice talent. Perhaps an ad on craigslist in a few different markets would do the trick as well.

Depends.

There are a zillion non-union agencies in small-to-mid market towns representing local talent and they pretty much unanimously suck.

The key phrase here being "local talent."

On the other hand, lots of major market real-deal union VO people elect "financial core" status with SAG & AFTRA, which allows them to do non-union work while giving up the right to vote in union elections.

These folks typically have both union and non-union agents, with the non-union agent typically in some other city. Many LA union actors, for example, do non-union work through Real People Talent in Atlanta (who, unlike many agencies, represent kids as well as adults).

Also check out agencies like Colin McMurray, VOX, Characters, and Messinger in Toronto. There are no unions in Canada, and the Toronto talent pool is large and very pro.

come to the Dallas market.

Deep and strong talent pool, abundant ISDN facilities and 95+% will work non-union.

Actually, Canadian actors are represented by ACTRA, which has reciprocity agreements with SAG. All well-known Canadian actors are ACTRA (unless they have moved out of the country) so for non-union here you'll have to depend on VOX Talent or PNAgency.

BTW, laddie.music, sorry I didn't notice your non-union mention in the original post!

Hm. My bad. I've been involved in a ton of projects with Canadian talent (I can't directly hire them 'cause I'm an AFTRA sig) and every one of them has been a non-union buyout.

We are currently searching for local VO talent. I posted a listing on our local college on line bulletin board and have already gotten about 10 replies. I will have them audition next week and pick the best two male voices and the best two female voices and go from there. Sometimes if you look in the local colleges you can get a lot of well trained voices that are majoring in RTV, Theater or Public Relations/Public speaking. We have used students for a multitude of projects in the past and have found them to be very good, very reliable and very easy to work with. They can always use the money and the experience and doing voice over work looks good on the old resume. We also work closely with Creative Voice Development Group LLC and have met some exceptional actors and actresses. There web site is here Voice Over Training | Voice Over Classes | Professional Voiceover Training

FWIW and YMMV

Agencies which represent non-Union talent are pretty common within the CONUS actually.

Even the major cities (NYC, Chicago, LA) will have some kind of representation for non-Union talent (LA might be a little tough to find though... no represented there, so I'm not going to speak as an authority).

States like PA and Texas will have a lot of agencies representing non-Union.

From there, you go to Voices.com and V123. Some folks love those sites, some hate them... depends on what you're looking for (e.g., if you have a budget of $50 for a national, you're not going to be getting the best of the lot... more like the crud from the bottom of the barrel; pay going market rate for your area and you'll have a much better experience).

No experience with voicecoaches.com, but I have worked on projects that also used students from the local colleges (which for me are UofPenn, Arts College of Philadelphia, etc.). Some were good, some not so much (much like everything else).

Personal opinion - depending on where you are, contact a local or regional casting agency. They'll have a library of folks to choose from, and since the quality of the talent is a reflection upon themselves, the quality level will usually be better than a "cold call" method of casting.
