Using Omnis for surrounds inQuad ambiences

Hey all,

I've heard that using omnis for surrounds when field recording ambiences in quad can be "problematical". (I didn't have time for a follow-up question)

I suppose I should just go try it and see for myself, but does anyone have any experience with this? Any other advice for surround ambience in general? The distances between front and rear mics, as well as distances between the surrounds themselves are of interest as well.

Thanks!
