Stereo Downmix Pluggin

Hey guys,

I know that there has been some threads about this before, and I'm using the busses auxes method, but I'm out of time. It's a one hour docu and I can't afford 4 hours aprox of mixdown.Could you advice me with a pluggin for a stereo LoRo downmixing?

Best regards,
Marco

Why don't you just make an LtRt? If level and time are an issue, get a nice limiter too. Not the best fix, but it'll do. The Massey L2007 Master Limiter is great and Dolby Surround Tools will make a LtRt and you can probably get it on ebay for cheap (few hundred). With these you should be able to get at least a doable version.

Paul Neyrinck has a plug in that will do this for you as well. He makes wonderful software.

Hey guys,

Thank you for your answers! I can't use the LtRt cause it's going to a documentary festival and the playback system is stereo.
Quadraphonics are you refering to the neyrinck Sound Code LtRt?

Once again,
thank you very much for your answers,
Marco

But you're LtRt will playback fine on a stereo system, that's half the point of it.

LT/RT sounds horrible undecoded...it sounds horrible decoded too, but that's another matter altogether.

Just make some busses from your 5.1 mix submaster or stem, send them to some aux tracks and send them to a stereo buss adjusted to compensate for your downmix and send that to a stereo record track. That's it. Easy.

Agreed, it just sounded like he had a couple hours to get this done. But yeah, I'm with you 100%, I've never been a big fan of LtRt.

BUT it will playback stereo.

Can't say I agree with that. Any LtRt I've made sound absolutely fine undecoded unless you are using the surrounds a lot. Of course decoded it's never as good as discrete but if I have to deliver a two track from a 5.1 mix I will always deliver an LtRt over an LoRo. Plus if it is going to a festival there is a chance it will be decoded so I'd rather be safe and have an LtRt so there will be no surprises.

Hey guys,

Thanks to your helpfull answers I've managed to pull this one off on time. I usually do the downmix through busses and auxes(good old school), but since I was limited in time I had to use a pluggin. I've downloaded, the Neyrinck LtRt, as you sugested quadraphonics and it's pretty good. It actually does LoRo and Prologic. Also you can change the phase, level of LR, LsRs,C and apply a "limiter".

Anyway, thanks!
Best regards,
Marco
