Thanks to a recommendation from you and Chris, I did, along with my friend Alex. We worked our butts off on this project, and I'm very proud of the results. I hope everyone enjoys the film as much as I do.

I missed it in theaters, but it's in my Netflix cue.

I'm a huge fan of the genre and I've heard nothing but great things about the movie.
Can't wait to check it out!

Only watched this at the weekend and was pretty engrossed in it - tension was slowly raised, artfully done and totally sucks you in. Well done to all

That's one of the things I really like about the film. There was tension and a general uncomfortable feeling for most of the movie. Kind of like Inglorious Bastards, but to a lesser degree.

Having worked on The Hurt Locker, I can attest to the fact that John and Alex did excellent Foley work! They are truly professional, and always put in 110%+ on every project, regardless of the budget or time they are given. In this particular film, Foley played a prominent role throughout the soundtrack, and the way it was recorded gave it a really claustrophobic feel. I think I can say for all of us involved, it was really fun to have worked on it.

That's funny, I was just reading a review in the New York Times about it. I'll think of you, and maybe have question or two!

I actually went to see this in theaters, it was actually really good. I disliked the ending to be honest, but the rest was great!

Cool, sadly my queue says "very long wait". I wanted to buy it, but I can't even find it locally on Blu-Ray. Bummer.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. As Chris knows, it was a fun and challenging project, with the end results being well worth it. Definitely something a little different from the usual Hollywood blockbusters.

Congratulations to the post production team!! Saw this film last night on DVD and I really enjoyed the sound design. It supported the documentary style image, imho, brilliantly. In regards to that,

Literally just finished watching this... sooo much tension, I loved it. Phenomenal foley work, I particularly loved the scene where James is trying to disarm the car, I felt like I was sitting in the front seat with him.

This film has lots of air and space, the foley team had their work cut out for them! Very impressive, you should all be proud. Congrats!

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the kind words. That car scene was a real bear. Especially since we were working on a stage that had just gotten taken over and had barely any props. I guess we made lemonade out of lemons.

Congrats, santacore, on your work and your part of the nomination bragging rights. Fine film.

(and Drag Me To Hell also, btw! Nice stuff)

Thanks so much Jfriah and Roy, I really do appreciate. As you guys know, it's nice to get a little recognition after working so hard for years.

I've gotta give a lot of credit to my artist Alex, he really really went the extra mile.

BTW, Roy, I'll have a session to you by the end of the week. The artist I'm using (Alex) had a death in the family that pushed everything back.

I agree, awesome work! The helmet foley also stood out for me. Great stuff. Was that just the motorcycle helmet you mentioned?

Cheers,
Jesse

Well, I really only had a small part in editing and pre-dubbing some of the soundFX, but I think the film really lends itself to a kind of "closed in" feel. It was really the excellent direction from Katheryn and the editing (Bob Murawski and Chris Innis) that allowed us to make the audience feel like you were there with them, whether you were in the suit with Jeremy Renner, or riding in the Humvee with them. The foley was shot in a smaller/deader room that might not have work as well for some other projects, but for The Hurt Locker, it worked out really well. It was very dry and in your face (mostly with a close mic, if I recall). When pre-dubbing the sound FX we were able to play up the foley more to help with the tension of the moment (ie: disarming an IED). Notice as well that there isn't much music, and when there is it kind of blends in with the sound design/backgrounds. Congrats to Paul Ottosson on all of his editing and mixing nominations (well deserved), but credit should also go to Jussi Tegelman for pre-dubbing the dialog, and the rest of the foley and editing crew as well.
