east west voices of passion

Hello all,

I have just watched a video clip on utube regarding voices of passion and I was completely blown away by it.

My question is has anyone on this form used this software, if so I would much appreciate your feed back on user ability. I have been informed that this software was used for the soundtrack of Gladiator which was an amazing soundtrack. Your feedback would be of great help to me. Thanks in advance.

I've been using it on the last movie I did. It's not that easy to program the vocals on the keyboard, it takes lots of time and work but can sound very nice indeed.
I personally prefer using just mono from left or mono from right.

Our last album was done using VOP.

The Welsh and American voices are fairly flexible. The Indian, Bulgarian and Syrian are more interesting, but you have to write the song around them. Check out Syrian Siren Song on the link above and you'll hear what I mean.

Like Soundgeezer says, the mono is better used than the stereo. Some of the samples are a bit noisy in one channel.

Doubt it. Lisa Gerrard was used for the soundtrack of Gladiator, and near as I can tell, she doesn't come in software-form.

Thanks for you input Paul. I have just listened to your album and throughly enjoyed your work. I really liked Blue year's day and night. After hearing your work I am now going to purchase VOP and the orchestral one. It is hard to take in that this software can produce such realistic sounds. Paul you must be extremely pleased with your work.

Regarding Gladiator the person who informed me was obviously wrong.

Been using it the past year and a half on a new game score in conjunction with 2 others singers I have recorded. I also prefer the Mono L or R and usually mix them through one of the Bricasti Halls. The recordings are quite good and it is useful in certain situations. I use them very subtle in the arrangements but they add a wonderful texture.

Thank you, I'll pass on your compliments to Cass as well. Like I say, you'll find that you have to fit the music to the phrases rather than the other way round.

Interesting that Rob should chime in on this thread. He made a great album called Addictions and Scars a couple of years ago under the band name Red Delicious

Great album. Are those strings for real or sampled? great percussion too.

man i love to record bands and stuff, but composing sountracks and descriptive music for living would be my perfect life. :-D

I did a demo soundtrack to a game once, but unfortunately the game never went into the market. :(

I'm going to purchase VOP so I was wondering can I purchase the sound banks, ie Gypsy or Silk and run them through VOP or do I have to purchase the complete software? I hope this is not a stupid question!! Thanks

They all run through the same sampler, Play. Once you have it then adding the libraries just adds an interface for each, but the engine remains the same. So you can mix and match up to 18 samples from any library in one instance.

Takes a lot of RAM, though, which is why I run it in Sonar x64

VOP is a great tool for sure! I used it on a documentary score last year.

I really wanted to use it in an original way, so I ended up singing some melodies myself (composed by me) and manipulating the VOP melodies to match mine. This was hard, but I ended up getting a very cool female color on what sounded like a chorus. It's not exactly a shortcut, though.
