Reaper has working video support

With Reaper 3.14 we can now actually use video playback of most codecs and containers.

It works for OSX and for Windows.

On Windows 7 rc x64 I tested the 32-bit version of Reaper. Quicktime 7.6.4 , FDshow x64 (ffdshow_rev3119_20091027_clsid_x64.exe) and XVid 1.2.2 are installed.

The codecs that work nicely so far are :

MOV - Photojpeg
MOV - H264

AVI - Xvid
AVI - DivX
AVI - MotionJpeg

Those are the ones I tested. The Quicktime files all worked in the OSX version.

Btw, the OSX versions has almost no limits any longer. The big extension with all the nice new commands, tracklist window, snapshots and stuff is available for OSX as well at Home - Standing Water Studios . OSX Reaper has a media explorer as well now.

If you like, please join the discussion on the Reaper forum about the video features of Reaper. 3.131 pre4+ VIDEO - Cockos Confederated Forums

We're still hammering the developers for stuff like having the edit/playhead and thus the video following moves like dragging items and fades around.

Audio scrubbing works especially well with the non-GOP videos of course. You can scrub just the picture easily by making a time selection and dragging that around, as that drags the edit/playcursor with it.

H264? Really? Good performance?

Using that destroys most DAWs capabilities... it eats so much CPU to decode on-the-fly.

Generally I convert whatever I get to DV of some flavour... that is always easiest on the system no matter what DAW I'm in.

The question is, is the video locked to the beginning of the timeline.

That ALWAYS bugged the hell out of me as no matter what, I'd have certain sound effects have different timing no matter what BPM i used.
