own music toolkit, need dv toolkit

Hey,

I already own the music production toolkit and I now need the DV toolkit for pro tools. This means I already have more than half of the features that the dv toolkit offers so I'm loathe to pay £600 for digitranslator and the timecode ruler. I apologize if this sort of question gets asked all the time, but I couldn't find a specific enough answer when I searched.

Anyone else been here or can offer any advice?

ps - I'm currently scoring a feature length doc in Logic 8 and I want to do all the post in Pro Tools.

Cheers.

eBay is your friend!

You should be able to find Digitranslator for just over £100 after the iLok fee and DV Toolkit shows up too occasionally (although a quick scan now revealed nothing, unfortunately) - if I recall correctly the toolkit license alone was around £250 or so. Depends how patient you can afford to be I guess.

still not cheap, but better than buying the whole thing new.

Hey,

Yeah i saw the translator on there. I'm checking everyday...but can't afford to wait too long for the toolkit ilok to appear minus the plugs etc. I may have to do the post in Logic...

Thanks!

Do you know anyone with DigiTranslator? Because you could just have them open up the Logic OMFs and save as a Pro Tools session.

This might be a good test anyway, because I know some people have trouble going back and forth from Logic to Pro Tools using OMFs, and it would suck for you to have purchased DigiTranslator, only find out that your OMF imports aren't working...

Also, as for the timecode ruler, I use HD at work and LE at home. Once I sync up the quicktime movie to the timecode ruler in HD, I just use the window burn for reference in LE. You can't spot to timecode or nudge by frames, but it's something.

Hey,

Thanks for the advice. I won't be exporting OMFs from Logic, the editor with be exporting an OMF from Final Cut.

Cheers.

has the picture been locked?

if it has then you'll only need to import the OMF once so it might be worth getting a friend do to the import for you and then your off.

time code is nice to work with tho.....

in the end i bit the bullet and went for the complete toolkit in PT8 as i found i was quickly using up the 48 voices for film work

?

Can you elaborate?

I have the economy version of Logic.

Is it possible to import an OMF file and then save that as a Pro Tools session, bypassing the need for digitranslator?

***fingers crossed!***

Hey,

The picture will be locked at the end of the month before I start work on it. I think I will buy the digitranslator 2nd hand on ebay for about £100 and the license for dv toolkit without the plugins...I've seen that go for about £140. I have the most plugins and the trackcount from the music prod toolkit.
I think the timecode ruler seems essential for a decent workflow.

Cheers!

I got a Digitranslator and DV Toolkit 2 licenses via Ebay from Dutchmuzik for $400. This doesn't creep up often but it does. No useless plugins or other junk.

Works with 7.3.1 (had a time finding that DVTK installer for that on the Digi site) up to 8.x.

Hey,

I'm a touch confused!

I am currently running protools LE7.1 on a g5 tower, dual core 2.3ghz with the music production toolkit installed.

I've never upgraded because the system has been rock solid.

I am now looking to buy the DVTK 2 enabler liscence on ebay but I've not been able to locate the installer on the digi site.... any ideas?

Cheers!

Hey thanks for checking that out, is it still a possibility to upgrade to 7.3 or am I forced into pt8? I'm not sure what's holding me back from pt8, maybe because I'm on ppc mac and I worry about being left behind!

thanks again
