Best Sounding Theaters in NYC

curious what you think the best sounding standard 21:9(non IMAX) theater is in NYC.

my vote was for the ziegfeld until i saw star trek there a few nights ago. big disappointment. was way too loud and bright. sounded like they boosted the masterfader and cut the subs so they wouldnt distort the amps. although they distorted a bit anyway.

whats curious is that i saw monsters vs. aliens there a few weeks ago and it sounded pristine and well balanced.

im not sure what format the mix was in but maybe the optical reader was misaligned? maybe they are mixing action movies too loud? (ha) in anycase im looking to find the best sounding theater.

thanks!

Ziegfield is my favorite...

Clearview Cinemas: Ziegfeld

Ziegfield

It was built from plans by the firm of Emery Roth & Sons, with designs by Irving Gershon and interior design by John McNamara. The theatre features 1,131 seats: 825 seats in the front section and 306 seats in the raised balcony section in the rear. it's just sweet! looks good, sounds good, is well taken care of.. It's the way movie theaters should all be.

cheers

HA! yea i remember that. what made up for that a bit was the crowd participation. was pretty entertaining.

I'm surprised to hear the bad experience. I've been to many blockbusters there and never had a bad screening experience. I'll have to go to another one soon and see if thins have changed.

I saw Star trek at the Lowes on 86th... Sounded and looked great.

cheers

Saw Star Trek at the Regal Union Square last week. Sound sucked big time. Wayyy distorted.

Agreed with Georgia, the Ziegfield is the best. Saw the first Xmen there.

My favorite theatre is the Lowes on 34th and 8th, always sounds great, and besides that it's got tiered seating, and the chairs are really comfy. Neither one of the theatres at union square are as good, I don't usually travel any further uptown for a movie. (except for the IMAX).

I think the IFC Center at West Third Street has a great sounding and very comfy space. They wont screen anything like "Star Trek' though but still...
