need a cheap D/A

Hey Guys I'm after a cheap D/A. something with a+ 4 output
Basically so I can plug my coleman VU meter from the spidf outs of the MBOX2 output..
Audio quality isnt a big issue as it just for my VU

Anyone got any ideas?? is there anything other than the behringer model?

Cheers

If its just for VU, then get a behringer.

Maybe you can try a cheap consumer DAC (e.g. Gefen)
GefenTV Digital Audio to Analog Adapter and convert it's output to balanced +4 with a small interface like RDL
FP-UBC2 Unbalanced to Balanced Converter - 2 Channel or
ST-UBA2 Unbalanced to Balanced Amplifier - 2 channel

Or you could go with their DAC
HR-DAC1 Digital to Analog Converter - 24 bit 192 kHz
but i don't think it's cheaper than the Beh.

Flying Cow M-Audio Flying Cow 24-bit D/A and A/D Converter*::*Compressors, EQ's, Gates, Limiters, etc.*::*Outboard Gear*::*Pro Audio*::*The Midi Store

Super DAC by Midiman Harmony CentralĀ®: Midiman Super DAC 24/96(TM) D/A Converter

are the two we are using for what you are doing.

I think the Super DAC is no longer being made BUT you should be able to find one on EBAY.

Or you could build your own. Welcome to the Audio DAC page or Audio Note Kits - DAC Range Overview

I would use a Patch Bay with a 1/2 normal from the MBOX outputs; which would feed both monitors and MB2 at the same time, but that would be me.

I have tried that, but the output of the Mbox2 is to low a level for the coleman. Unless I use a level matching interface like this

APHEX Systems 124A Audio Level Interface

That's probably because the analog outputs are after the output level control.
