Recording Music for Film

Hey, my questions is, when recording music for a movie, what should be my bit depth and sample rate? Because i belive sound (like dialogue) is recorded at 48. So i was wondering if it made a difference if i record music at 44.1...which i believe is what i should be recording at if i wanted to put the music on a cd. Make sense??

Need context... is this score? Or are you recording songs/music that you handing out in the hopes of getting placed? Is this for a specific project?

If it's for film, I'm always at 24bit/48kHz.

We record all orchestral music at 96/24. For movies we record and mix at 96 and typically deliver in 48/24. We archive at 96/24 in case of later demand for higher resolution for bluray.

I would avoid 44.1 at any cost if the final format is 48/24.

24/48 is most likely but you should really find out the specs from the sound supervisor so you can match the dialog & FX sample rates.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!! Yeah "i am the supervisor". Really, this is my own project for a movie i will be filming later. I am going to be doing a mix of more rock-type music instruments and string stuff. I'll probably be mixing the entire movie later on when i finish it. I tend to have these little questions more than the bigger ones.
It's all going to be score or songs that i've written so i guess the answer is 24/48. Thanks friends
