Thread Starter | Video Game Rates What would be an appropriate amount to charge for producing a music track or song for a Video Game Publisher? This is the Producer's first Video Game Placement. Thanks. |

| you have offered an interesting statement. Are you asking what you should set your rate for Work-for-hire? Or are you expecting residuals? Who is going to own the copyright? Is this your first project or your 100th? What kind of gig? Full on live musicians and Big mix room... or composed and created and mixed in the box by you... If it's the "producers" first or 200th...so what... what kind of budget is available? Is it already set? Is the producer expecting to get a bill or a quote from you, or is the producer expecting a freebe? Who cares if its the producer's first gig or not.. that doesn't , in itself, change your rate card.... cheers geo

Thread Starter | Video Game Rates Thanks for the responses. What is the rate for work-for-hire and if the Producer was expecting residuals? He would retain the copyright. The gig would be supplying instrumental tracks to a Video Game Publisher. The tracks would be composed, created and mixed by the Producer and he is expecting to get a quote and bill from the company. Any information would be appreciated. |

| Game composers usually charge per finished minute of music. Game producers (esp. publishers) expect full buyouts of the work. Live musicians, large rooms, etc., are billed on top of the per-minute fee. The per-minute fee ranges greatly (from a few hundred to a few thousand per-minute). Dave |
