Audio Not Syncing !

Hi, working on a short indi, and my pro tools audio bounce isn't syncing up with the video after I bounce it. The audio is being imported into Final Cut, I made sure that my Pro Tools session is at the same frame rate (29.97 drop frame) as the video guys.

Does plugin NON-delay compensation affect the audio when bounced?

The only thing I can think of is that it might be related to Pro Tools plugin NON-delay compensation. I am using FXpansion VST Wrapper with my Powercore for the audio Denoise plugin to get rid of background noise, and I'm also using the PT EQ.

I'm mainly a cubase guy but need to start using PT for these Post projects.

My guess is that its an issue in Final Cut- as there have been issues in the past. how far off is it? Delay Comp shouldn't effect it by a significant amount.
Are you bouncing to disc? If so, have you imported your bounce to your PT session and is it lining up there? If its not lining up in Protools, try bouncing your mix down to another track instead of to disc.

is it not syncing up and staying consistently out, or is it drifting, or changing the amount of "out-of-sync-ness"...

cheers

It's drifting sync.

so it shouldn't be due to delay comp- cause that would be a consistent delay and would not cause a drift.

maybe make sure the capture settings in Final Cut are the same as the timeline??

also, maybe have the FCP editor re-export the file from final cut and see if it matches length of your original bounce.

I recorded the bounce to a new track and lined it up in a new PT session, worsk fine, It's synced. Opened it up in cubase and lined it up, works fine. Must be a FCP thing, I sent the editor the link to the digi conference page and told him to try out QTpro export.

I don't think there's much else I can do.

this may be caused by the FCP thing... or simply an improper export of the picture.
Did you get an OMF as well as the picture? did the original OMF sync to the picture without drift or moving files? Did you assure that you exported with appropriate pulldown / pullup, etc.

cheers

Rule out picture problems

As Georgia said, make sure the picture is OK, otherwise you're running in circles (we always think it must be a SOUND problem, but sometimes the problem is on the other side). Check your bounce against a tape picture generated by the FCP. Also, use the EDL to see if both sound and picture are behaving as they should. Check the LFOA - does it fall where it should? Measure a few pix cuts and compare these to the EDL. If cut lengths line up, the pix is probably not the problem (unless, of course, you have a bogus EDL - but life is rarely that unfair). This means your problem rests in the sound.

I know that didn't solve your problem, but at least it rules out one variable.

Good luck,
