Vacancy: Post-production Sound DesignerEmployer: C-Squared / Annie's Egg CoLocation: Los Angeles Duration: 1-2 weeks, starts ASAPPayment is on a lo/no/deferred basis.
Post-production Sound Designer needed to balance and finish period feature film.
In 2003 Annie's Egg Company Ltd produced "Tom's Wife" (toms_wife_reviewsplit), this feature film set in Great Depression Texas won several awards at festivals all over the world, but it was never actually finished. Unfortunately our budget ran out before all of the post production work could be completed properly. It has always been my intention as the producer to finish the film and finally have it distributed, but I have not been able to raise the money needed. So I am hoping to find one talented and hungry Post-production whiz to take this film and make it sound even more beautiful in exchange for the experience and footage for their reel.

It was cut on an Avid so familiarity with that system is important.

Please tell me a little bit about yourself and your experience, and please forward any links to your work.

Come on- this is just CL in general regardless of category. You can find offers similar in compensation- or lack thereof in any of the fields listed there. You can also go into the personals section and find men who are willing to blow you for free.

They just really know what they want -- a "Hungry" post whiz. Since they aren't paying anything, that personal certainly won't be able to afford to eat.

We get inquires from potential clients all the time to do post production on their FABULOUS low budget films. They want us to do the editing, post production sound, color correct them and author the DVD for the "privilege" of seeing our name on the credits. They have really big ideas of where their films are going when we are done with them but have no idea of how they are going to get them through the post production process or the budget for getting them done.

I guess someone should ask them why they are asking a company that is in the commercial post production business to do something for free for someone that they don't even know but today that seems the norm and not the exception.

We get the same questions from musicians that want us to do their mastering for free for the privilege of doing it.

Yea, I hear you Thomas. It's a disturbing trend indeed...

Yet hopefully some of the posts are kind of funny because they're so clueless.

You complain now or laugh but

But you realize that the reason they can do that is the jobs are being outsourced in all depts.

Most job posting sites can be seen by others countries. If they can get down via the internet...your bidding on things that workers will take.

Sad but If we don't start sticking up for. . . . versus our own pocket books. . .

Come on, if you want something done. You gonna pay if you can get it for 1/10 by someone else?

another from Mandy but still funny

First, I love how they call this an assignment. As simple as this job probably is, they should still be coming up with SOME money. Also love the line that says "The producer has produced 15 films, so there are many other paid gigs to be hired for down the line." I'll bet there are.

*************************************
Payment is on a lo/no/deferred basis.

THIS IS A NO PAY ASSIGNMENT.
All professional cast & crew have donated their time to this project, including the producer. Please do not respond if you are unable to accept a NO PAY assignment.
We need a Sound Editor for a 15 minute short about The Underground Railroad that will be premiered at an industry event on October 13 and then used in pitch sessions for a 12-episode series on the subject.
It is dialogue ONLY except for music during the opening & end credits. Very simple job. We just need it to sound as good as possible.
All cast & crew are experienced industry professionals. The sound editing is the final step in making this a great presentation piece.
You must have your own sound editing system. You WILL receive professional imdb credit. The producer has produced 15 films, so there are many other paid gigs to be hired for down the line.

If you're averse to foul language, don't watch this. Otherwise. Pretty classic.

It's funny when you get a "you'll get loads of work down the line" act. If that's the case, why aren't one of your buddies who did your last 15 paying films helping you out?

"Yes, they have been bagging groceries for us for the last 2 years. But between you and me, their ability to match in ADR is a little weak."

Yea, that's part of the problem. Creative work making audio visual media is pretty popular compared to being a trash man or what not.

There was quite a long argument on the UK Shooting People site about this.

An actor who had enough of these requests in the castings bulletins, wrote a very snarky hoax crew call in the filmmaking section. There was much handbags at dawn.

It is trifle annoying. Ooh! Incidentally my phone is ringing right now from a director who actually never bothered paying my travel reimbursements.

Nothing like standing in a park with a boom mike for 8 hours in March, for free.

Grumbles.

I actually responded to that ad, telling them that $14,- an hour was way below what anyone with the qualifications they were looking for, would expect to get paid.
