Cool clip. It's great to see Foley getting some exposure.

Yeah, Jeff said that they had a whole routine choreographed and the host guy changed it all up on them.

Great stuff.

I kind of thought it was such a giant over-simplification of foley that it made foley artists look clumsy. I mean, I understand the intent and need to entertain and I love Craig Ferguson and all. But it probably gave a lot of folks the wrong interpretation. Not that it matters. nobody gives a damn about sound anyway.

Agreed, it was funny, but left overall negative impression on me.

I thought it was funny.

I can see why some would see an over simplification, but I didn't think that they left an over simplified impression of foley any more than actors on those talk shows might convey an over simplified impression of acting, or a band or playing music.

I thought it was cool and would probably expose a big audience of viewers to an art form that they may have never heard of.

Ferguson is definitely taking the piss and going for laughs at these guys' expense.

It left a bad taste in my mouth, too, probably because it's not uncommon for us sound folks to get marginalized or trivialized by other "creatives" in the business. However, it's obvious in this case that it's all in good fun and Ferguson is just doing his schtick which is mostly snarky sarcasm and satire.

Also, he gives the impression that all "sound effects" for a film are made by Foley artists which is obviously misinformed. But, whatever...it's a bit of late-late night TV fun.

It's a late night comedy show, not PBS. It made foley look fun, which it actually is most of the time. Great opportunity for the foley artists to get some exposure, a plug for Todd A/O and have some fun in the spotlight. Anyone who actually works in the business will know that it was a skit and not a serious demonstration of the craft.
