I am really sorry guys, I am sure this has been talked about before in detail, and if so you can provide a link, but: I have just completed a documentary for broadcast (PBS) and my mix peaked out at -12db. I am now getting ready to author the DVD version. Can I - Should I use these same levels? It seems a tad low, and of course I have a little more dynamic range to work with, but.... Will we be OK, and will it sound OK for others mixed at -12db on their DVD players? Thanks in advance people! jfn |

It will be fine, people can turn up the DVD player ever so slightly if needed. Also, if you mixed for PBS then your dialnorm is -24, so when you author the dvd and enter the correct metadata, the receiver will turn it down to -31 anyway.

I did PBS a few weeks ago. You're right about the peak levels. But I haven't seen anything kicked back for peaking under the max... only dialnorm problems.
