Calling all sound designers!

To all persons with experience creating sounds/fx/foley for multimedia....

I am about to undertake the most challenging sound design experience so far.

Without giving to much away (its gonna be a worldwide hit by the way) I am commissioning an adaptation of a classic turn of the century horror novel......for the radio.

The story is chiefly about a man alone in a house and his experiences with the supernatural focusing on the great swing from total isolation to being in a world full to the brim with supernatural attacks. A metaphore for one bordering on the edge of sanity.

My question or challenge as it were is to suggest some sound design techniques(considering that it is a radio production)that may lend themselves to this type of physical and metaphorical tale of isolation and phantazmagorical travel.

NO CLICHES PLEASE!

As I read through the book I will post an idea from a scene and ask how people would go about creating an appropriate/unappropriate soundscape.
