Recording delay PTHD 7.3.1!

Hi!

I have a problem with a delay that occurs when Im recording.
When I press "Record" it takes about 1 - 1,5s before protools start to record
its very frustrating because Im recording much ADR for the moment!

Im using PT HD 7.3.1 and has never had the problem before.

regards
Benny

Do you have the "countoff" button selected in the transport window? Or pre-roll on?

No post-roll and I cant find the countoff.

But it more looks like the system freezes, Meters freeze in there current state, sometimes I even get the spinning beachball for a while before it starts recording.

The delay is between 1-5 s and the delay time is different from time to time.

In some cases the waveform stops drawing during recording and the beachball apears.

So the system can freeze while recording, but after I press stop it updates and the waveform is written!

My thought is that is something with the buffer size or dsp settings in the playback engine menu, but the strange thing is that it has always worked before and the setup has never changed.

Same here

This is been happening to me as well. It started when I mixed a huge 96k session. Ever since then itll happen once out of every 5-7 times of recording... annoying.

PT 7.3.1.cs2? (i think)

Thats strange.

Wonder if thats a comman issue in that version.

Maybe Its time to upgrade to 7.4? if that solves the problem.

The strange thing is that everything was normal until I made session copy of an old session, deleted unused files then started recording.

All advices are weclome!

is your record allocation set to 'open-ended' or is it set to a specific amount of time?

that is what i was thinking too. espeocailly with a big drive, PT has to "look" at it first. set your record time to 30 minutes or something.

I'm willing to bet on a HUGE disk, and open-end record time.... drop the record time to just a bit more than you need....

cheers

Go into Sync settings and make sure it's not set to wait for time code lock...

Thanks all!, Problem solved!

Changed "Open-Ended Record Allocation" from "Use all Available space" to
"Limit to 30 minutes" in Setup-Preferences-Operation.

My disk is 1,5Tb so thats why it takes a while for PT to count the available space on the drive every time I press rec when Im using the "Use all Available space" option.

Thanks you all again very much!

For the record, this also happens on very full (fragmented) disks. It can also affect playback starting time.
